Judge: Jamie Mendelson

I went before Judge Mendelson for my disability case. I suffer from severe nerve damage with spinal fusions in my back, spinal stenosis, nerve root involvement, and severe neuropathy in both feet and ankles. She was rude, accusatory, and thoughtless as she spewed hateful rhetoric about what a liar I am. I was humiliated and left with nowhere to turn. I hope that the government offers as much assistance to Juge Mendelson in her time of need as it has offered me, which is nothing.

Judge: Cynthia K Hale
11/2/2019 11:01:30 AM

As to my opinion of Judge Hale, I think she treated me fairly and seemed empathetic, but the evidence she was given was flawed. I am in the process of appeal her unfavorable decision. I don't know how folks with an even worse case of mental disability gets through this. I'm in year four of this and I don't think I can take much more.

This judge is a miserable human being. Because of this, she inflicts her anger and frustration out on claimants and attorneys. She ignores 10th Circuit precedent in evaluating evidence. She ignores Social Security regulations, particularly the "5-Day Rule." Her interpretation of the 5-Day Rule has no basis in law or fact. Claimants will not receive a fair hearing or due process with this judge.

This judge denied me on a persistent basis and without giving my two 10 yr. long treating specialists any weight. During my final hearing with him, he would literally rip a page out of my file and throw it. He would slam his coffee cup down. It was clear the man did not like me for some reason. He was not professional and had a anger problem. Later my case was given to the federal judge and reversed and said for payments to begin immediately. I have no respect for Busick

I am a disabled man as of December 2012. Social security stole my benefits! Kathleen is a party to theft by helping social security commit this fraud & abuse against me. The recording of our hearing clearly shows Kathleen would talk over me, like a child would, not allowing me to state facts that prove my case unequivocally!!! It’s on & everyone is becoming famous for all the wrong reasons, especially Kathleen’s lying face. NBC, cbs, cnn, etc...will all get the facts proving not only that you stole my benefits but you violated my civil rights! Hello bar association! You ppl stole from the wrong person!!!!

Judge Terrence Hugar overheard my appeal in my Disability case February 2019 . He listened to All of my medical evidence and history that was presented in front of him concerning my case . He then asked me many questions about my current health and my daily lifestyle and limitations . He was very Fair in all of his questions he asked me . Overall he was very knowledgeable and professional ,and made me feel relaxed in his questioning and approach . Judge Terrence Hugar is in my opinion a Very Fair and Very Knowledgeable in his Duties .

Judge: Mark R Dawson

I have only wonderful things to say about Judge Dawson. He really is committed to serving the community in a professional, sympathetic, and honorable way. Judge Dawson is not only a true humanitarian, but an experienced judge that provides equality and judicious decisions. Also, Judge Dawson seems to have a way about understanding people with respect, intelligence, and a helpful manner. From my personal experience, he has enlightened, inspired, and encouraged me to optimistically change my outlook on life and renewed my faith in myself. When he told me to "find purpose" I did. I was immediately determined to check my CU Denver courses I had remaining for my psychology degree the next day. I now have a new philosophical, confident, and fearless attitude that has changed my life for good. Judge Dawson literally saved my life and has been a true Godsend. Thank you Judge Dawson, you are a true hero! FYI: If you have an "observer" for your court case make sure they know the appropriate etiquette for your court appearance. DO NOT ask the judge to shake his hand, totally inappropriate.

Judge Denney is a very compassionate judge. She ask the questions and let me answer fully before going on to next one. She lets you give her as much information as you want and listens with respect and does not rush you . I don’t know what the decision is yet but I can say she is a very nice judge to have. Just had my hearing in April.

Still waiting on my decision, however I can say she was amazing, I'd been out of town before my hearing and ended up needing to do it by phone at last minute due to getting caught in a storm, but she willingly accommodated the situation, listened very thouroughly to everything and the details of my impairments. She was very kind, understanding and compassionate, as everyone I hope to get approved, but even if I don't, I still have nothing bad to say about her as a judge or person.

I liked this Judge a lot. She took time to listen to my case. Really made me feel comfortable even though I was in a lot of pain. I never felt I had to convince her of my condition. She has my records, has seen enough people and I believe she knows by looking at people who is really being truthful and needs the SSDI.

Judge Millington was very kind. She was familiar with my case, And made me feel very at ease as soon as I entered the courtroom. Disability hearing is very stressful. Judge: Denzel R Busick
5/2/2018 7:59:19 AM

Judge Busick did an exceptional job taking the time to understand my case. Having an extremely complicated condition with medical science having a relatively limited understanding and few treatments has left me struggling with putting together a core group of specialists overseeing my treatment. Judge Busick reasoned through my complicated records and made the correct decision. This was no easy task and I will forever be greatful to him for doing a thorough job. My only complaint is my family and I may be homeless before my approval is processed. I’m not sure where food will come from the next two weeks. The system is extremely backed up and the government would do well to find more competent judges like Judge Busick.

Judge: John T Molleur
3/8/2018 11:50:37 AM

Judge Molleur denied my case. I had lumber fusion of the l4,l5, S1 with all of my attending physicians writing that I am unable to work. Even the Dr that sits in the hearing stated on record that hypothetically he cannot do any work of any type. I was in severe pain and and was unable to sit while the hearing was going on. However the Judge still denied me. How unfair the people that need it can't get it.

Judge: Kathleen Laub
10/27/2017 9:05:48 AM

Witnessing a judge with an apparently crooked agenda and an attitude that she can treat disabled people as criminals, bully them, even sexually harass them, including use of intimidation, has led me to contact SSA directly and we are in the process of filing a formal complaint. I encourage others to also file their complaints. Were you also denied an advocate? Did Judge Laub seem intent on taking your hearing time to push you to reschedule (after 2 years of waiting!), in order to have legal representation that you did not want (to have to give them your money, because you only pay if you win!)--does she only award based on lawyers receiving a percentage of your money? Are you a male whom she used sexual intimidation against as a courtroom tactic? Or maybe you are female and she committed a verbal sexual assault against you? All this happened and more, which is why I am not standing for it--bullies need to be terminated from jobs that require intelligence, not intimidation. Bottom line, as many disabilities can result from assaults, including sexual, a judge who behaves in this manner, has no business working with disabled people. She belongs in a criminal court!

This judge is a joke. Despite of what you tell him he seems to already have his mind set before you walk in the door. I wish he'd simply retire rather than toying with and destroying peoples lives. Those of us who are truly disabled need judges who truly understand their decision can cost us our lives. If I could give him negative stars I would. Thanks to this loser I'm homeless. May God have pity on him.

Judge: Lynn Ginsberg
2/2/2017 11:13:41 AM

My hearing was January 11th 2017. Needless to say I was present without an attorney, nervous and didn't know what expect. All I knew is what I heard about how hard the judges are and how mean. I walked in a court room and faced a very compassionate, knowledgeable, and understanding judge. I am suffering from many disorders one being anxiety, and I couldn't thank her enough for helping me through this day to calm me down to get me composed enough to talk through her questions. I'm not sure what her decision I'd yet, but I know it will be one thst is fair and I know that she can see who's needing their disability and who isn't. Thank you again Judge Ginsberg for hearing this day. Sincerely, Elizabeth

I had a hearing this week (Dec 22 2016) where Judge Ginsberg was assigned to hear my case. I had no idea what to expect. After 31/2 years of dealing with my disability I didn't think I would be as emotional about it that I ended up being that day. I tried hard to compose myself but the years of dealing with this seemed to take over instead as I realized I had a very compassionate person in front of me that seemed to understand my struggle and really listen to me. Whether I am granted my request for disability or not I feel her decision will be one I trust and can live with. Thank You again Judge Ginsberg for being so kind to me.

Judge: Denzel R Busick

I tried atleast 5 cases with Denzel Busick, before he went on the bench. He was one of the best Malpractice Lawyers in Nebraska and probably the hardest working. Very good in the court room, very good with evidence and he knew medicine better than most MD's. Don't confuse causation with confusion. He knows Causation medicine better than most--that is why he is rated in the top ten percent of ALJ's.

Judge: Lynn Ginsberg
11/21/2016 1:43:22 AM

My hearing was on September 16, 2016. I don't feel my hearing went well. I probably will get a denial letter. Judge Ginsberg is a very good judge. I did not not have good representation. The hearing started late because he was in another hearing. He didn't spend much time preparing me for the hearing. I was extremely anxious and wasn't able to answer questions. She is professional and I could tell she works hard to understand your case to make a decision within the laws of ssdi. Be prepared with your case.

Judge: John T Molleur
11/14/2016 6:49:41 PM

All I can say about Judge John T Molleur is he is fair. I was told by my own attorney he was mean and all that but I didn't feel any hostility from him at all, he let me explain my situation no matter how long I took. I had my hearing on 8 Sept 2016 and was told my case was approved on 10 Nov 2016. Now just waiting on my letter and back pay. The thing he wanted was me to change my onset date which I totally approved of, so I have nothing negative to say about him, he asked what he's required to ask but obviously he agreed with me. The Vocational expert did say there was no job for me to do as well, I guess that helped but I haven't gotten my package yet.

What a joke you wait over two years with a doctor saying you are disabled ,not even sedatary work , then lyle decides on his own that the social security doctors where wrong and my wife should be light duty then he asked the dvr expert if there were jobs for that .of course there is but he didn't add that the dvr said no to her being able to work with her restrictions , but lyle old buddy used only his version, her doctor had her no work and the social security doctors never examined her and gave an updated opinion on her ,with no updated testing on her ,with her new mri results showing a bad back and arthritis in her spine among other things .its very clear the new ssid theme is now ,deny deny, deny, good luck if you get this guy.oh and they purposely delayed giving the results to us ,so now she can't reapply ever again .her credits expired on the 30th and even though he made is decision before that he made sure to put the reapply date on the first ,what a joke ,of course he will never admitt that .we will appeal and hope for justice .and a new alj.

Judge: Lowell Fortune
6/14/2016 11:20:19 AM

I found Judge Lowell Fortune to be fair, kind and pleasant. My disability hearing was presented to Judge Fortune after I had brain surgery in 2014. I had never been to a disability hearing much less my own, so I admit I was a little afraid. I was happy that it was over with quickly and Judge Fortune decided in my favor at the end of the hearing instead of making me wait for weeks as I was told could be possible. During the questioning he was very pleasant and smiled several times. I am thankful that my experience during the hearing process was simple, quick and not as stressful as I thought it would be.

5/17/2016 10:36:49 AM

I beg to differ with the comments left on the page, Judge Lawritson was very fair to me, he reviewed my case, he explained all of the legalities to me because I had no clue of what to do and what nots, he also asked if I was being represented and I said no because I didnt know of the time frame to get a lawyer and was unaware that it was too late for me to get a lawyer until the judge (Lawritson) told me, well I felt hopeless and screwed and didnt know what to do and the judge(Lawrtison) said he would personally see to it that we get all of my records because they want to charge me for my own records....judge Lawritson assured me that he would get the records and further discuss options once he had recieved the rest of my records. I at least was given the benefit of the doubt and told that he would either make the decision himself or have me back for another hearing but that ether way for me to hang in there and he would work as fast as he was able to help me get through this whole mess, so Judge Lawritson....thank you for truly showing that you care and that you are willing to help out people who arent familiar with what to do in these cases. Keep up the good work and thank you again......

Judge Ginsberg's office (legal assistants) have been very courteous and much more helpful than the offices in St. Louis, MO where they continually said they never received my medical records verifying that I indeed have Lupus, accelerated degeneration of most joints including spine, severe or anaphylactic shock reactions to medications needed for treatments, and other records. Judge Ginsberg's office has kept up with all of my records thus far and has answered my questions fully.

Worst judge yet I've been denied 4 times twice by him and the appeals council keeps remanding it back to him........ Don't u think that means he's missing something in my opinion he's to old to be on the bench! Didn't ask me anything during heading just read what last judge before him said..... Been fighting for this for almost 6 years!!!!!!!!!! Need a new judge but no the appeals council remanded it back to him AGAIN.

Judge: Thomas S Inman
3/16/2016 10:21:27 AM

I just wanted to say Judge Inman's rule was not a just one. While he acknowledged my illnesses, he did not acknowledge all of them. In addition to SLE which has many manifestations, I have Fibromyalgia, arthritis, no cartilage in my knees, disc disease in my back and cervical dystonia (this being the one he ignored), he actually showed great confusion I regard to his understanding of my headaches. I did not claim they were from migraines, they were due to the dystonia, yet he mentioned several times how my migraines were much better in response to treatment. Migraines were not a major issue on my end and my lawyer never used them as part of our argument, they were simply listed as one of my ailments that I live with. It appears the judge went through my records for the sole purpose of evidence of hypochondria. One if his examples was a doctor visit I had in November of 2013, I thought I was having a Lupus flare, he notes that my doctor didn't think so and if it was then it was a mild one.

Very unhappy this judge mixing up all the facts in the case and also not looking into the misdiagnosis on my case file. I had severe pain in my back upper and lower and possible nerve damage, I was bed ridden for months even and currently in physical therapy. The judge had the vocational counselor come out and tell me I could do work in a factory which indeed could harm my health condition, I could not believe this when I heard it. Not only did the judge make many assumptions she thought I was just perfectly fine, she took everything out of context and reversed it backwards on me. I even sent her more evidence as to her mistakes in her judgements, she never looked at my case and dismissed everything.. my new evidence and xrays , Dr's letters etc. The fact my case was from the get go misdiagnosed and my previous condition of 15 years erased and now I am classified as having some mental condition I was appalled and disgusted with this I will surely appeal with a lawyer. No wonder she has a 43% approval rating, thanks for the facts.

How can a judge with no medical experience decide the fate of my life!?!? These judges have no medical training. This judge chose to not "give weight" to my 2 specialist. My records clearly show my conditions. How can they know better than a person that has spent 8 yrs or more of their life in schooling. He did not clearly state why he did not give my Dr any weight,he made untrue statements. The job vocationalist said that hypotheticaly that with my my side affects of my meds I was unemployable, that with my mental state I was unemployable, that with the time needed off for dr appointments I was unemployable.

Judge: Debra J Denney
8/13/2015 3:23:21 PM

Very nice Judge, my first time in front of her, very fair and to the point, no idea of outcome, but she is fair to the client, and that is all one can ask for in hearings.

Judge: Robert J Labrum
6/16/2015 1:20:35 PM

I have appeared before this judge several times representing clients. He is fair, he is prepared, and he understands the law regarding disability claims. If you don't have good medical evidence (as noted by the other commenter on this page), what are you doing at a hearing? SSA can reverse any favorable decision that isn't based on medical records. Why would Judge Labrum waste time approving your claim based on your own personal account, without supporting medical evidence, when it's only going to be reversed when SSA appeals?

Judge: Patricia E Hartman

Judge: Mark R Dawson
4/21/2015 3:36:01 PM

The Honorable Judge Dawson is a very fair and compassionate judge, taking time to research rare or lesser known disorders that may not be on the Social Security Administration's list of approved disabilities in order to hand down a fair and informed judgement.

Judge: Patricia C Henry
2/9/2015 7:33:04 PM

I just received my denial letter, I saw Judge Patricia Henry, every paragraph was lies, she twisted and contorted my records and testimony to fit her denial. She basically committed perjury! She contradicts herself in different paragraphs in regards to my disabilities and abilities, she needs to get off the bench STAT! I will be filing all sorts of complaints and even taking this to our legislature. We presented her with evidence, she twisted factual evidence to being non-existent! If you get this judge, kiss your case good-bye!

This "man" is the worst type of person possible and should not be adjudicating disability cases. He is heartless and has zero empathy for anyone appearing before him. 8/8/2014 10:08:59 AM

Judge LoBurgio is the most thorough ALJ I have ever had, and through the years of practicing I have learned a great deal from doing hearings before him. I appreciate that he knows the case record very well, and in my opinion strives for fairness in hearing every case before him. He can be tempermental at times, however when you are prepared for your hearings this is rarely a problem and has no impact on his decision-making. Generally he is very pleasant and has a good nature. He is very knowledgeable of the all the pertinent rules and regulations and applies them fairly, and his manner of examining medical experts and vocational experts is un-matched. Having a chance to work before him has strengthened my skill-sets, and I believe he sets a great standard for ALJ's hearing claims. Overall, if you have a case before him, I am of the opinion he applies the law the way he is supposed to do.

Judge: Marsha Stroup
8/8/2014 9:55:50 AM

I have been before Judge Stroup several times over the years representing claimants. She is always personable and allows the claimant's to have a fair and full hearing. In my opinion, she weighs the evidence objectively and without pre-conceived biases as some ALJ's seem to do. She knows her record well, and is thoughtful and balanced. Even in the cases that have been disapproved, my clients felt respected by her which says a lot about her nature.

Judge: Jennifer B Millington
6/30/2014 10:02:34 AM

I have appeared many times before ALJ Millington and she has the most pleasant personality and temperament of all the Denver ODAR judges. Of course, everyone has a bad day, I guess, but a "nasty temper" is something I have never seen. She is also one of the few judges I have appealed, obtained a remand from the US District Court back to her, and, after a rehearing, she agreed with me and reversed herself, granting benefits. I am always relieved to get her on an SSDI or SSI claim. I know she is going to treat my client like a human being and she will listen carefully. I think she reads the file well before the hearing.

Judge: Kurt D Schuman

Judge Schuman tends to stick close to a script for the beginning of his questions and then delves deeper if he sees anything that isn't in the record or that is confusing. He tends to be moderately prepared for the hearings beforehand, reviewing the evidence somewhat. However, he's cagey and tries to confuse reps with whether he'll grant or not. Hearings tend towards an hour long. Nice in person to most reps, but he'll push claimants ******* certain issues, such as lack of exercise, post-onset work activity, age, and even how they pay the bills. He is very understanding to inability to afford treatment. Apparently he was kicked out of the Denver office and does most hearings in Casper, WY. All in all, a middling type of judge.

Judge: Lowell Fortune
2/4/2014 11:22:12 PM

Judge Fortune wrote in his decision that I did not display the symptoms of PTSD in the courtroom. I thought it was the judge's job to examine the facts and put together the puzzle from what the doctors diagnosed, not to diagnose conditions themselves, after all they are not doctors so they do not have the training to diagnose medical conditions. I was discharged from the military for PTSD and am currently rated 100% disabled by the Veteran's Administration for PTSD, based on their doctors who specialize in PTSD, but I guess judge fortune (I did not capitalize intentionally) knows more about PTSD than the dozen or so doctors I have seen and am still seeing from the military and VA. Also, he was very disrespectful and utterly rude. Two things that have no place from a judge. Maybe his parents never taught him to treat people properly. I have never said someone should be fired but judge lowell fortune has no business as a judge!!!

GREAT Judge. Her hearings a laid back and she listens to everything. really a great experience.

Judge: Rebecca LaRiccia
1/28/2014 3:46:12 PM

When the court started judge Lariccia read off to me my condition. She had not read all my medical and when told this at the hearing she still could not accessit without my lawyers help. She went into the hearing with precocieved notions and never changed them. When the vocational counselor from the state went over jobs he stated i couldnot perform light duty with my conditions I stated to the Judge. In her decision Judge Lariccia said she agrees with the doctor that I have severe pain but I can still perform a light duty job. Then she spelled out what i could perform as it relates to lifting. Noware in any reports or FCE did it say I could do that. Also she said the vocational couselor said I could perform light duty with my spoken evidence. He never said that. I faxed in a release for the hearing proceedings and never recieved them. In my opinion Judge Lariccia was not prepared for the case, and looking at her basis for decision she never read all the medical.

this alj has published papers on TBI and KNOWS the disability effects differ from day to day, even hour to hour. I truthfully answered "yes" bcuz i have swept snow off my 2x2 foot front porch some days--said that qualifies me to be a maid..never mind I forget where I park my car or if I've put away the milk, turned off the stove, etc. Johns Hopkins brain surgeon report AND NIH study for effects of headaches that last for days...also said I could be pipe fitter -- omg, documented nerve damage to my dominant hand. He disregarded the fact that I get lost easily and pointed to all the jobs that are 20 miles away from where I CAN navigate.

What is Judge Fortune's allowance rate on remand?

Judge: Rebecca LaRiccia
3/27/2013 7:45:59 AM

This ALJ used to be in the NHC in Chicago. Her award rate has been fairly consistent. She is pleasant, sometimes ready to start hearings early. She asks for opening and then she questions claimant. A good, strong work history is always a plus. She will do bench decisions too. In my experience this ALJ is very fair. All judges have to formuate opinions on crediblity and severity of symptoms.

Judge: Kurt Schuman

He signed my friends' death warrant by denying her Social Security by saying "She just needs to lose weight." Will losing weight grow her a new kidney, make neuropathy in legs go away, make post polio syndrome go away, make depression from illnesses for so long, make uncontrollable anxiety go away? ...." He's a jerk. I am writing anyone who will listen.

Judge fortune or mis-fortune as he is referred to by those who have the mis fortune to be in his court is the worst type of person the world has produced. I have been in front of him three times and each time he is more rude and strange the previous times. I had four experts witnesses find in my favor, two are doctors, one was fortunes own expert on my kind of heart condition and the vocation expert, he had gone out and found another doctor that said I was not disabled. To call this obscene is an understatement and to call him a professional or judge is and over statement. If you get this judge, be afraid, very afraid. He is charge of peoples lives and shouldn't be in charge of a broom.

Judge: Robert J Labrum

If there is evidence in the file supporting the claim, he does a good job. If the evidence isn't very clear, he will likely deny the case.

Judge: Rebecca LaRiccia

This judge has approval rating of 43% and apparently uses the same justification for all her cases. She states while the impairment is "severe" and there is objective evidence to support it, she does not agree with limitations and pain expressed. Who is she to know how much pain somoneone is in and how can she deny the medical evidence that supports the pain? Shameful..

He should be called a federal pre-judge. He is the epitome of disrespect and biased analysis. After destroying so many lives, I can only hope that he doesn't sleep well at night. But, then again, I should know better; a psychopath is incapcable of empathy or remorse.

I am a lawyer in Denver Colorado and I just had a hearing before her. Although I have not received the decision yet, I thought she handled the hearing more than appropriately. Her questions were thorough, she was polite, on top of the record and honed in on the appropriate records. At this time, I will give her a top rating.

Judge: Lowell Fortune
7/16/2012 6:50:21 AM

He is far from a fair judge and he should be brought up on charges for how he treats the people who come before him. I have never met a more unpleasant person in my life and for him to be someone in authority and sit in judgement of others lives is wrong. VERY WRONG. To call people liars and say they are fat, lazy, or any of those things is wrong. He should not be allowed to stand in judgement of people until he has walked in their shoes! He has no respect for anyone's problems in life, so why should they give him respect. FOR HEAVENS SAKE, he rolled his eyes. Teenage girls do that when they are told to do something. This man is no better than a spoiled teenager only he is given the job of calling someone a liar!! I sure would like to see if he treats his family & possible friends the same way he treats the people who come before him in his job. Being a fair judge is a good thing, being one who does not actually listen to the facts before him and makes a decision is a whole other ball game.
